Reaching the summits

Accompanied by Louis Lachenal and supported by a team of experienced mountaineers, Maurice Herzog achieved a world first in 1950 by reaching the summit of Annapurna, which rises over 8,000 meters.

This committed sportsman wore a LIP watch on his wrist during this historic ascent. This achievement allowed the watchmaking company from Besançon to establish a remarkable watchmaking record.

In honor of these extreme adventurers and in memory of this victory over the elements, Fred Lip, who counted the mountaineer among his friends, named one of his new models from 1951 after this Himalayan peak.

The Annapurna watch, for which Maurice Herzog contributed to its commercial success by participating in various promotional activities with the LIP teams—activities that Fred Lip had mastered—was eventually renamed Himalaya after Sir Hillary conquered the summit of Everest in 1953.

Heritage and Innovation

A tribute to extreme adventurers

Today, in memory of the feat of these extreme adventurers, the LIP House offers this iconic watch equipped with the R26 movement to become a classic prestige collection dedicated to overland activities. The Annapurna collection, designed to occupy a sport-chic market segment, retains the general lines that made it successful during the early 'Fifties.'

This piece, with a diameter of 39 mm and a delightfully vintage design, features a polished 316L stainless steel case with satin-finished sides or polished PVD gold stainless steel. It is available with a black or silver dial, showcasing a dual sunburst finish on the interior and sandblasted around the numerals, topped with openworked hour and minute hands.

Guaranteed water-resistant to 50 meters, this reference pays tribute to the golden age of the mechanical watch, a period when the Manufacture produced a tenth of France's timepieces and ranked seventh among the world's most powerful watchmaking companies.

Earthly universe

Thought for adventure

Designed primarily for urban and terrestrial use, the Annapurna Manufacture movement is individually numbered like all high-quality timepieces but is not produced in a limited series. Unique due to its individualization, it is worn on a supple genuine leather strap in black or camel for the stainless steel versions.

The gold version, on the other hand, is worn on a genuine brown leather strap with alligator embossing and fastens with a specific pin buckle from the Manufacture collection.

Powered by the R26 Caliber

The Annapurna LIP Manufacture movement is powered by the R26, the brand-new automatic mechanical caliber from LIP. Visible through the transparent case back, it has been reimagined in-house with the collaboration of the Besançon engineering school, SupMicroTech. It features a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound, a hacking second hand, and a date display.

With over 70% French value in terms of production, its balance wheel oscillates at 3 Hertz, or 21,600 beats per hour, and it showcases the LIP logo on its gear bridge and oscillating weight, which seem to overlap enchantingly with its oscillations. Fully assembled, cased, and inspected by the master watchmakers at LIP's Besançon workshops, its gear bridge, balance, and oscillating weight screws are specifically hexagonal to emphasize its French heritage.
