LIP, official partner of the 7th Continent association de

LIP, the French brand of great explorers such as Maurice HERZOG and Eric TABARLY, is joining forces with Patrick DEIXONNE and Expedition 7th Continent to raise awareness of the urgent need to manage plastic waste in the oceans.

To support the 7th Continent association, the French watch brand is presenting the new NAUTIC-OCEAN in 2023, equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement and a Seaqual bracelet, made from plastic fibre recycled from plastic recovered from the Mediterranean Sea.

The NAUTIC-SKI: The first French watch to be truly water-resistant to 200 m, the NAUTIC-SKI, a timeless and legendary timepiece, is the finest example of LIP's expertise. Produced in the spring of 1967 to celebrate the brand's centenary, the NAUTIC-SKI was showcased at the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Games. Its water resistance was quickly put to the test: the NAUTIC-SKI was adopted by Eric Tabarly and Captain Cousteau's team.

First reissued in 2017 in its historic size but with a sapphire crystal, it is the enlarged 41mm-diameter version that will appeal to the public under the name GRANDE-NAUTIC.Synonymous with sportiness and sturdiness, worn in particular by the army's special forces and the operators of the GIGN antennas, the GRANDE-NAUTIC has all the qualities required to meet the demands of this man of the sea: strength, legibility, water-resistance, precision and durability.

The NAUTIC-OCEAN is a GRANDE NAUTIC made of 316L steel, water-resistant to 20 bar thanks to a screw-down case back and crown. The diving time is indicated on the adjustable inner rotating bezel by means of the second crown at 2 o'clock.

This timepiece, built to withstand the toughest conditions, is equipped with an automatic 3-hand-date caliber and features large white hour-markers and luminescent hands that stand out against the sublime ocean-blue dial back.

Expedition 7th Continent is a non-profit organisation, recognised as being in the public interest, run by Patrick DEIXONNE, Founder and member of the Société des Explorateurs Français.

No ocean is preserved by the massive presence of plastics. These plastics carry endocrine disruptors, heavy metals and other pollutants, all of which put a strain on ecosystems. They present a proven risk to marine biodiversity and, given the trophic links between species, their effects on human health are irrefutable. In 20 years' time, if significant action is not taken, both at industrial level and in terms of individual behaviour, these continents of waste (there is one in each gyre, and the Pacific gyre is around seven times the size of France) will cover an area much larger than Europe, with consequences that are still largely unknown. In the face of this threat, Expedition 7th Continent is working to preserve the oceans by combining scientific, educational and media expertise, structured around a shared commitment: to understand, promote understanding of and reduce plastic pollution of the oceans for a preserved planet.

All the profits from the sale of 599 copies of NAUTIC-OCEAN were donated to the 7th Continent association at the end of 2023.

The NAUTIC 3:
‘zero plastic’
Water-resistant to 200 m

In 2024, LIP took the challenge even further and launched a ‘zero plastic’ model packaged in a cardboard box.

The reference chosen is the NAUTIC 3, which houses the famous calibre from La Joux-Perret, entirely assembled in Besançon. Water-resistant to 200 m, this new 2024 edition model is mounted on a 316L steel bracelet with a folding clasp, and of course features the highly sought-after ‘Ocean’ dial with ‘Expedition 7th continent’ branding, covered by a sapphire crystal.

The watch has been on sale since the end of June 2024 and all profits will be donated to the Expedition 7 th Continent association.
