Made in France - Besançon
Today, a French watch is being reborn with its original hand-wound mechanical movement: the T18 from LIP, designed, assembled and tested in Besançon, its home town. For the occasion, its case has been slightly enlarged to bring it into line with today's wearing style, and is made of polished and brushed 316L stainless steel. The timepiece, produced in limited quantities only, features a dial inspired by the original model, with hand-applied relief numerals and a small rose-gilt second hand at 6 o'clock. Its precious sapphire crystal is anti-reflective, rectangular and slightly curved. It is worn on a camel ostrich strap with folding clasp, handcrafted in Besançon. The mechanical movement is visible through the transparent caseback, revealing its large balance, now oscillating at 3 hertz for greater precision, as well as its delicate traditional finishing such as the ‘côtes de Genève’, the circular graining …. This collector's item, with its harmonious, luminous colours, is sure to be the envy of many.

About t18 original
A French history.
T18 Original
Today, a French watch is being reborn with its hand-wound mechanical movement at its original rating. Unique and an inspiration to the Swiss competition at the time, it bears the name of its caliber and is the most frequently produced timepiece in the history of watchmaking by an international brand whose name is pronounced in every language. As you will have gathered, this is LIP's T18, designed, assembled and tested in Besançon, its home town.
It had to satisfy all the discerning enthusiasts looking for a timepiece with a design inherited from the Art Deco period and driven by a reference heart. For them and others, LIP, now headed by Pierre-Alain Bérard, is relaunching the celebrated T18, this time with a contemporary hand-wound mechanical caliber. To meet the expectations of purists, the dimensions and construction are largely based on those of the movement developed by André Donat from 1931 at the request of Fred Lip, who had just returned from a study trip to the United States.
A visionary, this boss of the most famous French watch brand, now often cited by enthusiasts in France as one of the world's top five, also had an innate sense of communication. If he had been around today, he would no doubt have begun the advertising for the new generation of T18 mechanical manufactures with the following words: “Do you know which is the most produced rectangular watch in the world and the best known in France, Russia and the United States? “
“No, collectors, it's not the Prince from Rolex or the Reverso from Jaeger-LeCoultre, but the T18 from LIP, of which more than 400,000 were produced between 1933 and 1949’”.
