Lip, the official timekeeper of the French Historic Grand Prix
With a wealth of chronometry awards to its name, Lip is honoured to become the official timekeeper of the French Historic Grand Prix for the first time and for the next 3 years.
Gathered together on an exceptional site, the most beautiful Formula 1s from McLaren, Williams, Ligier and many others that have marked the history of motor racing will be unveiled to a public of nearly 80,000 people who have flocked to the Le Castellet site to enjoy the many surprises of this sixth edition. A record attendance!
On 19-20-21 April 2024, the Paul Ricard circuit hosted this exclusive event, featuring no fewer than 13 motor races over the course of a weekend, and it was the famous watchmaking brand from Baux-Bois that counted down the tenths of a second during this major event to provide impeccable timekeeping. LIP took advantage of the event to unveil its two new Rally Chronographs specially designed for this Grand Prix.
A true motor sport enthusiast, the legendary boss Fred Lip collected and raced racing cars from the finest marques, including Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Combining his passion for car mechanics and watchmaking, Fred Lip even made custom modifications, including adding a Lip chronometer to his Ferrari 410 Superamerica.
The current Managing Director, Pierre-Alain Bérard, wanted to pay tribute to the passion of his predecessor, Fred Lip, by once again becoming the official timekeeper and designing and developing time measurement instruments adapted to motor racing.

Exclusive launch of new Lip chronographs celebrating motor racing
After commemorating the 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica and the 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S, Lip is presenting two new limited-edition models for the French Historical Grand Prix.
Featuring a chronometer scale around the edge of the dial to enable drivers to calculate their lap times, the two new models are worthy heirs to the racy chronographs used in motor rallies of the past.
The new dials feature a blue central section that generously encompasses the counters, which are silvered and linked at the centre by a chequered flag to celebrate the competitive spirit of the two chronographs.
Another special feature is the presence of red numerals on the dial to indicate the minutes when the watch is read in the normal way, and the seconds when the chronograph function is activated.
Exclusive to the automatic model, a chronograph movement fitted with a column wheel and vertical clutch equips the limited edition of just 255 pieces worldwide.
The second model, produced in an edition of 1906 to commemorate the date of the first French Grand Prix, will be fitted with a mecha-quartz movement combining the precision of quartz for the time system and a mechanical base for the chronograph function.
The two new models are mounted on a black leather strap perforated in the purest racing spirit and stitched in blue.
